18. Life in Morgantown

There’s a good reason Don Knotts attended WVU. He was born in Morgantown. His parents, Kathryn and William Jesse Knotts had one son before having Don, his brother William Earl, born in 1910. William was 14 when they had Don. The announcement of the pregnancy put such a strain on Knotts’ father, he suffered a nervous breakdown before Kathryn gave birth.

17. Chicken Plucker

As Knotts tried to find his way in the world after the Army, rumor has it he took a job plucking chickens for a market. The rumor insists that someone had told Don that he would not make it in Hollywood. To pay his bills, he took the work, wearing the nickname, “Jesse the Chicken Plucker.” These claims came about after Knotts’ life ended so nobody can prove it. If he did, it makes a helluva revenge story since he enjoyed so much success.
