11. Picture Pages with Bill Cosby
Bill Cosby’s legend is more or less tarnished at this point, but back in the early 80’s, he was featured on Captain Kangaroo to help teach children the importance of basic educational topics such as geometry, drawing, and even arithmetic. The segment was called “Picture Pages” and Cosby used the combination of his wild antics and a magic marker named Mortimer Ichabod Marker to help get the message of his lessons out to children all over the world.
10. Funny Looking Unitard
Twice a week from 1976-1980, the Captain featured a unique character on the show that went by the name “Slim Goodbody.” Slim’s main goal was to teach children basic bodily functions and human anatomy. And he did that by wearing a funny looking, yet incredibly unique flesh colored unitard which featured organs and many other key systems in a physiologically accurate manner. The brainchild of the character was John Burstein, who happened to be the actor that portrayed Slim Goodbody.
