18. Once the Pranks Caught Andy
The end of that sentence is “with his pants down,” literally. While on location for one show, the crew got the idea to prank Griffith in his hotel room. They dressed up a crew member as a server, then sent him to the door of Griffith’s room. When Andy came to the door, he wasn’t alone. Corsaut was inside his room. They weren’t engaged in a line rehearsal, either. Needless to say, Griffith was not laughing at this one. Still, nobody blabbed to the press.
17. Frances Bavier Was as Fun as a Pin Cushion
The woman who played Aunt Bee, Frances Bavier, lacked a humor bone. She didn’t much like the pranks and such. Bavier was from the serious school of acting. She grew up in a prosperous home in New York City, studied at the prestigious Columbia University and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. When she landed on the “Andy Griffith Show,” she was happy with the work but had different expectations for the professional environment.
