18. Stops Along the Way
In the movie, Titanic, the ship leaves Southampton for New York as if it were on a direct route. Not so. There were two ports stops on the way, one in Cherbourg, France, and another in Cobh, Ireland. Unfortunately, stops slow down movie plots so they cut those out. Audience members were welcome to believe Titanic made the stops in between some of the action. Problem solved.
17. Ship’s Mostly Male Compliment
It took 885 crew members to run Titanic. Remember, there were 176 for shoveling coal alone. The rest of the crew would be either sail the ship or make the guests feel comfortable. It wasn’t like today’s crews, a mix of genders and nationalities. Despite the massive staff on Titanic, only 23 of them were women. Only 212 of the total crew survived.
