These 25 Celebrities Served Their Country Before Becoming Famous

Hugh Hefner

You know him as the founder of Playboy Magazine. When Hefner graduated high school in 1944, he went into the U.S. Army. The future playboy of playboys spent part of his time in the military contributing cartoons to Army periodicals. He served for two years until he was honorably discharged.

Si Robertson

The guy you know from Duck Dynasty wasn’t always the bearded fellow he is today. Robertson joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict, then stayed in until 1993. Vietnam had a negative effect on Robertson, causing him to drink, a habit he dropped when he returned from service. He left the service as a Sergeant First Class (E-7).

Dennis Franz

Most people know Franz from NYPD Blue or Hill Street Blues. Before the famous character actor made a career of playing cops, he was in the U.S. Army. Franz was once a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He served in Vietnam, and like many who did, the conflict left scars on him inside and out.
