While the majority of the show took place on a sound stage, the exterior shots of family home were real. It was a house in Chicago, Illinois, on Wrightwood Avenue. Since the show went off the air, little has changed about the house. The current owners removed the shutters from the windows, but the exteriors of the home remained unpainted brick at a time when painting brick has become fashionable. One would think the owners would like to avoid pesky show fans from trying to peek into the home by changing it as much as possible. [Hint: Leave them alone.]
