The Rifleman: Secrets Behind the Scenes of One of the Most Popular Westerns on TV

Forgiveness is Key

Life lessons were in abundance on The Rifleman, and one particular subject that seemed to come up quite a lot was forgiveness. For example, in the episode “The Sheridan Story,” there was a soldier staying at the ranch who had lost an arm in the Civil War and it just so happened that the General who caused the loss of appendage was also on the ranch at the same time. As a way to apologize and ask forgiveness for what he had done, the General offered to pay for the soldier’s medical expenses. This was just one example of the many ways forgiveness was addressed on the show.
