Even though Crawford had a successful music career, he decided to switched gears in 1965 and he actually enlisted in the Army. Since he had been majorly involved in the Hollywood scene for almost his entire life, Crawford decided to use his strengths to his advantage. He helped the Army create a series of training videos, some of which are probably still used today. By the end of his two-year stint, he had earned the rank of sergeant when he was honorably discharged.
