1. Casting the Sisters
To cast the three sisters, Paul Henning auditioned some 1,500 hopefuls. Making it on the show was a big deal, considering Henning’s reputation. As he considered the actresses applying for the role, actress Bea Benaderet suggested he put his own daughter in the role of Betty Jo. At least, that’s how history records the story. Not saying Paul told her to suggest his daughter or anything scandalous like that.
