13. The War’s Effect on Olga
As war is wont to do, the oldest daughter Olga suffered under the stress of constant emotional pain from seeing bloodied and dead soldiers. As such, she was prone to bouts of rage, lashing out and breaking a window in one case. To cope, she took injections of arsenic, a common treatment for depression and anxiety at the time. In this still, Olga lies in bed. In calmer moments, Olga cited the escalating politics and her family’s reputation as contributors to her stress. To further calm her, they removed her from her position relegating her an office job.
