These Stills of the Last Russian Royal Family Will Haunt Your Dreams

3. One Final Meal

It was April 30, 1918, when the Romanovs made their final move to the house in Yekaterinburg, the Ipatiev House. At that time, a military engineer named Nikolay Nikolayevich Ipatiev owned it, thus the name. The other name for the house was “the house of special purpose,” a nickname which failed to reach the ears of Nicholas. For two months they holed up in Yekaterinburg, believing that Yurovsky intended to keep them safe from the Bolsheviks. This picture of the family at mealtime historians believe is the last such image of them, taken shortly before their execution.
