11. Fielding Family Concerns
Although Ihrke felt super-stoked, and she had plenty of support, not everyone in her life was so enthusiastic about her new career. Ihrke’s new gig had her wearing next to nothing, often stretched out in seductive poses. Her parents had concerns. “My family is a very Christian and conservative family originally from a small town in Minnesota,” Shannon told the Chicago Tribune. “When I started modeling, my mom said, ‘I don’t know about that.’ She wanted me to stay in the Marine Corps.” In time, though, Ihrke’s parents came around. “They’re super-supportive now,” she said. “My dad took pictures of himself holding a stack of the (Maxim) magazines.”
