It’s really called Philosopher’s Stone.
The version people from the United States know, where we’re talking book or film, is called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. That’s because Scholastic Publishing company owns the rights to the book in the American market. They didn’t prefer the word Philosopher over Sorcerer, so they changed the title. The movie had to follow suit. Filmmakers captured footage of the actors saying both versions where applicable, then cut the films for the regions. Thanks, Scholastic Pub!
