The success of The Rifleman played a major part in “normalizing” the idea of a single parent raising a child alone. It may have taken a few years for it to catch on, but eventually, there were other shows that adopted the same storyline. Some of the most popular series to feature a single parent were Bachelor Father starring John Forsyth, and Julia played by Diahann Carroll.
