12. Her Room

The fact that Sally had her own special quarters was enough to prove that she wasn’t any slave. Even in the best of situations, even under the graces of a master as benevolent as say James Madison, a slave never had her own room. The only conclusion was that Jefferson needed a place where he could engage her in privacy.
