History Altering: What Archeologists Unearthed at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello Property

9. Mountaintop Project

Armed with a $35-million budget, the Mountaintop Project intends to restore Monticello to some of its former self. The project aims to learn as much as possible about the original structure, architecturally, but also the story of the people who lived in Monticello, owners, and slaves. They want to tell the story as honestly as possible. As such, tours of the property do not hide what happened at Monticello. They present the facts as best as we understand them.
