14. The Time Politicians Erased Lamb Chop
In a crazy twist of events, the tapes of the NBC show suffered a terrible fate. In 1964, after Lewis’ three-year run ended over poor ratings, some numbskull reused the tapes of the show to record the DNC and GOP conventions. The move wiped out every shred of tape of that first show. While Lamb Chop and Lewis already had a reputation for racy comedy, some fans believe this is what prompted Lamp Chop to go political in later years.
13. Lamb Chops Overdue Return
For three decades, Shari Lewis kept Lamb Chop alive as part of her act when she made appearances, either on stage or on TV. In 1991, the pair finally got their chance to make it happen again on PBS. The show, Lamb Chop’s Play-Along, would feature the namesake and her human. As if no time had passed, they picked right where they left off, making sassy comedy for family audiences. The show was a hit, racking up six Emmy Awards for Shari Lewis by the end. It also received a Parent’s Choice Award in 1996.
