4. When DreamWorks Entered the Story
Before Lewis passed away, she made a deal with the DreamWorks corporation to sell them the rights to the Lamb Chop character. In legal terms, they own the intellectual property rights to Lamb Chop. The deal allows Mallory to perform with Lamb Chop live, to keep the puppet with her, but televised or otherwise produced content for the screen must go through DreamWorks. It’s not a bad thing, it’s reality. “It’s nothing I have any control over,” says Mallory, “which is the best answer I can give.” Prospectively, the deal means that a big company with money could one day breathe life back into Lamb Chop. With digital precision, she could one day get her old voice back.
