7. Breaking a Puppet’s Heart
In 1998, at the age of 65, doctors diagnosed Shari Lewis with uterine cancer. It was a terminal case, untreatable according to them. Lewis refused to accept what they told her. Back in 1984, those same doctors had told her she had breast cancer. She’d beat that case so why not this one? Two months later Shari Lewis was gone, but it wasn’t from the cancer. While undergoing treatment at Cedars-Sinai, as can happen when someone is weak, she developed a case of viral pneumonia. It killed her quickly, leaving Lamb Chop a lifeless pile of fabric where Lewis had last placed her.
