7. Filming Rights Denied

The producers went to NYU (New York University) to ask if they could film on-campus. Multiple others shows had been allowed to in the past. NYU said no to Felicity because they were afraid the show would include risque topics, and they didn’t want the university to be associated with that.

Looking back on the show from our perspective now, Felicity doesn’t seem too risky. Even so, Felicity switched the letters around, calling the college ‘University of New York’. It’s fictional and fairly uncreative…but it gets the job done.
