The only way to get that much weight moving at over 400mph is with a lot of power, and I mean a lot. How does a supercharged 410 cubic inch Pontiac motor capable of 750hp sound, well there were four of those all working together to produce well over 2,000hp. Some say it was closer to 2800hp but either way on September 9th, 1960 Thompson took the Challenger out to Bonneville where he ran a record pass of 407mph. This was the fastest any many had driven in a vehicle thus achieving the goal he had set out to do. Well at least part of it.
