Juicy Tidbits About the Movie Jaws

11. Not Everything Was By The Book

If you’ve seen the film as well as read the book, you already know there were quite a few differences between the story lines of each. Which is to be expected in some cases, and there’s obviously no question that Spielberg knows what he’s doing. But even still, I can’t help but wonder what it would’ve been like had he followed the book more closely. For example, in the book, Chief Brody’s wife actually had an affair with the character of Hooper. That surely would’ve spiced it up a few notches. Another prime example of something in the book that never made it to the big screen was that Mayor Vaughn wasn’t under pressure from local business owners to keep the beaches open. Instead, it was pressure from local members of the Mafia.
