15. Amity Island Was Not What It Appeared To Be

If you found yourself thinking some of the backdrops and scenery looked familiar in Jaws, it wasn’t because you had been to the fictional town of “Amity.” Instead, it’s probably because you have spent some time in Martha’s Vineyard. That’s right, the entire film was shot on location in the towns of Menemsha and Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. However, strict ordinances prevented the crew from building anything in order to protect the area. The only set that was built is Quint’s shack, everything else had to be built and taken down in the same day.
