Juicy Tidbits About the Movie Jaws

1. It’s a Shark, Not a Whale

This is another one that really caught me by surprise, and made me laugh at the same time. It seems crazy to think of anyone other than the great Steven Spielberg directing Jaws, however he wasn’t the first choice. According to reports, the job was first given to Dick Richards, who at the time had just released his directorial debut called The Culpepper Cattle Co. And he probably would’ve kept the job had he not irritated the producers of the film to the point that they fired him on the spot. The reason he was dropped from the project you ask? Well he had a terrible habit of every time he would talk about and describe the film, he would refer to the shark as a whale. Thanks to Richard’s lack of basic animal identification skills, a young Steven Spielberg was given the job.
