11. Doody Was a Patriot
There was more to the design of Howdy Doody than met the eye. At the time, the U.S. was actively in combat. In fact, during the course of the show, the U.S. battled through four conflicts, the start of the Cold War, Korea, the Cuban Revolution, and the start of Vietnam. To show his support for Americans in general, but especially those serving the country, Doody rocked 48 freckles, one for every state in the union when he was born.
