14. Doody Ran for Office
The pins for Doody’s campaign were straightforward, “I’m for Howdy Doody.” His platform was a simple: two Christmases and shorter school years. Doody announced his campaign on March 4, 1948. By many accounts, he couldn’t have done much worse in the role than many of the winning candidates who took the office. Anyway, kids loved the idea that their favorite character was running. If they could have voted, he might have won.
