9. Keeshan Fell Into the Work
Like many parts of the show, Keeshan’s role as Clarabell was spontaneous. One day, when there was a problem with the Doody doll and Smith needed a fill-in for the show. Keeshan, at the time, was part of the crew, a receptionist to be exact, but he knew the show. Smith invited him to go on as a clown to distract the kids, giving birth to Clarabell. Audiences liked Clarabell, the silent clown, cementing his future as an entertainer and creepo.
