15. Johnny’s Womanizing Ways
Words like “womanizer” barely resonated in the 1960s, not outside the walls of Ms. Magazine. As Carson’s marriage to Joanne crumbled, he developed a habit of entertaining women, most notably Angel Tomkins, a model for Playboy Magazine. Despite warnings from his attorney, Carson did what he pleased. By the time he married a third time, his womanizing ways were public knowledge, causing his third wife Joanna to always suspect him of infidelity. He covered up his behavior by plying her with expensive gifts, cars, condos, diamonds, and whatever it took to keep her happy. It didn’t work. They divorced in 1985.
