All Fun & Games? Everything You Don’t Know About The Life Of Cruise Ship Employees

20. Passengers Don’t Party

Oh sure, the deck of the boat is an endless party, but nobody parties harder than the crew. They practically wrote the book on work hard, party harder. Most ships have a special private bar for the employees to cut loose. That way they don’t spoil the mystique of the cruise, like Disneyland. In fact, like Disney, it’s all good so long as they sober up before going back “on stage.”

19. Americans Need Not Apply

While America may have once been the home of hard workers, in more recent history cruise directors find that employees from the U.S. can’t take the hours. This is no 40 hours then you’re out. Ship staff may log 300 hours in a given month. That’s about 70 hours per week. It cuts into partying time, but they make it work. There are, as always, exceptions… but not with fraternization.
