1. Johnny Was Based on a Real Person Too

We already know the character of Baby was based on Eleanor Bergstein’s life. But did you know the character of Johnny was based on a real person too? Apparently, Bergstein based the character on one of her former dance partners by the name of Michael Torrence. She had danced with Torrence back in her old neighborhood in Brooklyn and the film’s producers actually asked her to bring him in to help with the choreography. Unfortunately, though, Bergstein said that he was likely in jail or dead due to growing up in a rough neighborhood.
