17. Substance Abuse

In 1985, back during the Iron Works years, Paul Sr. stopped drinking at the insistence of his wife. It wasn’t just booze; there were drugs too. Teutul came from a family of alcoholics and lived surrounded by drinkers at the time. He went to AA, quit drinking, and spent nine years going to meetings like his life depended on it. It did. As abuse tends to run in families, both of the boys have struggled with addiction issues. Paul Jr. was in rehab at the ripe age of 16.
