12. Knotts’ Style
Espousing the comedic style of a famous vaudevillian performer, Eddie Cantor, audiences knew Don Knotts for his bug-eyes. In college, Knotts may have played the fraternity boy, but on-screen he often played the wound-up, socially awkward man. To his characters, everything was a surprise. Audiences knew when something wasn’t a surprise. Knotts would talk out of one side of his mouth, swagger, and furrow his brow like he knew all along what was going on.
