In 1947, Don first married a woman with the same first name as his mother’s. The pair had two children, Karen, and Thomas. They stayed together for almost two decades, until 1966. Their daughter, Karen, later leveraged the family name to break into Hollywood. She studied at the University of Southern California’s schools of Cinematic Art, taking work as a comic and actor after school.
