9. From Space to the Old West
The next year, Knotts was in a western, The Shakiest Gun in the West, capitalizing on his trademark character, the high-strung weirdo. The movie, which took place in 1870, was a remake of another film, Paleface, starring Bob Hope. It did well in theaters. In the movie, Knotts’ character, Dr. Jesse W. Heywood, graduates dental school in Philadelphia then heads west to become a frontier dentist. Heywood is a little nervous with a gun.
