Everything You Need To Know About The Great Captain Kangaroo

13. Mr. Green Jeans

There were many different people featured on the show over the years. And while none of them were more important than the Captain himself, there was one that was almost as. And that was the actor, Hugh Brannum, who had a long list of characters to his credit such as Uncle Backwards, New Old Folk Singer, and Percy. However, according to reports, the most popular character that Brannum played was that of the Captain’s farmer neighbor, Mr. Green Jeans.

12. Oh, Dolly

Who could forget the many cameo appearances by high profile stars featured over the years? Like the time when country music legend Dolly Parton was used to start the show with “Good Morning, Captain!” It happened during the 3rd episode of Season 21, and later in the show she was scheduled to perform a duet with the Captain. However, she was overcome with uncontrollable laughter in the middle of the song. At the time I’m sure the producers were mortified that it was happening, but when we look back on it now it’s one of the great moments in TV history.
