7. Commercials
Some of the many things that Bob Keeshan had no shortage of were expectations and standards. His expectations for his show were about as high as they could be, but yet he wasn’t willing to veer away from his standards to meet those expectations. He made sure that when doing commercials on the show, that there was a noticeable difference between the two. One of his biggest rules was that none of the commercials that aired on the show featured any of the cast members.
6. Color TV
By 1960, most major network television shows were starting to be broadcast in the new technology known as color TV rather than black and white. It was a major change in how viewers experienced the programs they were watching. Although, even with its ongoing success, Captain Kangaroo didn’t add colorization to the mix until 1967. It’s possible it was done this way because the show aired during the week, but nonetheless, it finally made the jump and never turned back.
