Hennessy Venom GT

The only reason the Hennessy Venom GT is not sitting in the top spot of our list with its recorded top speed of 270.4mph is because of a technicality. In order to get an official record, the car must do speed runs in each direction, to account for wind, then the average of the two runs becomes the official record. When the Venom GT hit its incredible top speed it did so on the 3.2 mile runway at the Kennedy Space Station. It apparently took over two years in order for NASA to finally approve the use of their runway for the record, but with one caveat, they wouldn’t allow them to make a run in both directions. The Hennessy Venom GT utilizes a 7.0L twin turbo V8 sourced from GM that has been tuned out to produce 1,244hp.
