2. So… Why so Forgettable?

Many theories abound about why exactly Summer Jam didn’t hold the nation’s attention as well as Woodstock. One man, Rex Thomson, on liveformusic.com, suggested that timing, booze, and distance kept the memories at bay. By 1973 the Vietnam Conflict was over,  but so were the ’60s. People had had enough of social unrest. The excessive drinking and drugs may have erased a few memories too, but the Grateful Dead also denied any filming, a rare move as anyone who attended one of their shows would know. With few records and lots of drinking, who could remember the event?
