Behind the 50 Year Evolution of the James Bond Franchise

9. Roger Moore

Following Sean Connery in the iconic role of Bond was no small feat. Roger Moore had to lose weight and cut his hair for the role. He’d only agreed to it when he was certain Connery was over Bond for good. Connery had sworn he would never play Bond again. As it was, United Artists, who’d collaborated on the films, had a long list of actors begging to play Bond, but they were all Yanks. Eon wanted a Brit to play Bond. Despite casting a Scot and an Aussie, Moore was the real deal, born in the Stockwell district of London. Moore still holds the record for playing Bond the longest of any actor.
