Al Capone Vs. Tony Montana: Quien es Mas Macho?

16. Italy v Cuba

For the record, Al Pacino’s heritage is not Cuban. His family hails from Sicily, Italy, but he plays a Cuban in Scarface. Cubans were not amused by many of the filmmakers’ casting choices. In addition to the title character, many of the Cuban roles were not played by actual Cuban actors. Filmmakers did not intend to paint a realistic picture of Cuban Miami, though. They even inserted a disclaimer in the credits distancing the film from the Cuban-American community. That said, setting the story in a fictional-but-plausible Cuban-American Miami brought the Capone tale into the modern era. Audiences would hardly know they were watching an allegoric tale of the 1920’s Italian mob.

15. Killers

One characteristic Montana and Capone shared was their murderous natures. Al Capone notoriously killed advisories in his rise to power, and during his reign. Authorities were unable to stick him for any of those murders, but they knew he committed them. He went so far as to blow up restaurants during business hours to exact revenge when someone wouldn’t buy his liquor. Hundreds died in these attacks. Tony Montana kills his predecessor along with several of his cronies. In Scarface, anyone who gets in Montana’s way dies, either by his hand or one of his men. In the end, Montana even kills his best friend for sleeping with his sister.
