48. The Kids Were Naughty
Susan Olsen played Cindy Brady, and Mike Lookinland played her stepbrother, Bobby. In the real world, the young actors developed an affection for one another. The problem wasn’t so much that they played siblings on TV, but that they were nine years old. Show runners couldn’t stop them from making out in Tiger’s doghouse when nobody was looking between takes.
47. Mike Brady Was Difficult
Well, Robert Reed was difficult. He and Schwartz used to quarrel all the time. Reed trained in the theater and was a seasoned Shakespearian actor. Because of this, he often saw flaws in the writing and didn’t hesitate to speak up. One spat at the end of one season ended in Schwartz writing Reed out of the episode. Reed had referred to a scene as ridiculous. Rather than throw him off the set, something he didn’t want to do in front of the children, Schwartz wrote him out.
46. Mike Was Still Considered the Best
Behind the scenes of the Brady House, Reed buried so many secrets one could write a book. So much of his life remained buried in a closet, on top of the fights he would have with Schwartz, but none of it made it to the fans. In 2004, TV Guide named Mike Brady one of the greatest TV dads of all time. As it we will see in the next slide, he was actually pretty cool.
