12. Gilligan’s Island

Television of the ’60s reflected the zeitgeist of the decade, sorta. The idea behind Gilligan’s Island was that people from different backgrounds would hammer out their differences stranded on a desert island. Nevermind that every one of them was caucasian. Launched in 1964, Gilligan’s was more of a success in the long run that it was in the ’60s. It only lasted three seasons, but the syndicated reruns over the next two decades kept Gilligan and crew in the spotlight.
