12. Frederick Fleet
By the time the lookout crew spotted the iceberg, it was too late. “Iceberg!” shouted Frederick Fleet, the man on the lookout. “Right Ahead!” By best estimates, that iceberg was 100 feet tall. the ship turned too slowly to avoid it. About 37 seconds passed from his famous line before Titanic broadsided the berg. Recent research indicates that had Titanic hit the iceberg head on, it may not have sunk. Fleet made it off Titanic safely, though. He lived to serve on the RMS Oceanic and in World War II.
