4. The Dead

Recovering the bodies was easy with the dead wearing life vests. Although around 1,500 people died, salvage crews only pulled 306 bodies from the water. Many sank with the ship. Ocean currents swept away the rest. The bodies they recovered went first to the nearest port, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
