8. The Split
For years, researchers knew they were not looking for one complete ship on the ocean floor, but one ship split into two parts. The surviving passengers had witnessed Titanic’s hull split around 2:20 am on the 15th. The front end of the ship had taken on so much water it dropped down, raising the back end into the air. The weight of the rear snapped the ship in half like a twig, hastening the end. Anyone still onboard at that point most likely died. The water was 28 degrees Fahrenheit, below freezing. The average person wouldn’t last 15 minutes in those conditions.
