Airbags have come a long way. Early versions were laughable, but now they are so effective we’ve lined car interiors with them. Unless you’re in a bad crash, accidents are far more survivable now per the proliferation of inflatable bags. Mercedes-Benz is taking their key learning from airbag technology to the streets, literally. They are testing airbag systems that deploy outside the car, using more durable bags, which lift the car off the ground in a hard brake. We can see where this is going… Cars of the future may have externally inflatable bags on all sides, making cars of the future dent-proof.
