10. Endora’s Brooch
The actress who played Endora, Samantha’s mother, was Agnes Moorehead. Although Moorehead was in no way a supporting actor, she did furnish one article of her costume which was special. It was a starburst brooch, set with a cluster of 8.5 karat diamonds. This was no costume jewelry. Montgomery admired the piece, often remarking on how lovely she found it. When Moorehead passed away in 1974, she willed her brooch to her onscreen daughter.
9. Marion Lorne was Aunt Clara
It’s normal in Hollywood for producers to typecast actors. It makes for more believable portrayals. It also makes it hard for those actors to find work afterward. For the actress who played Aunt Clara, none of this mattered. She was in the twilight of her life when they filmed Bewitched. Consequently, Lorne’s unique adoration of doorknobs, a real collection for the actress, made it into the script. As it turned out, she owned 1,000 antique knobs.
