There Are 25 Secrets About Bewitched You Never Knew

16. Montgomery almost didn’t make the cut.

At the time they were casting the show, Sol Saks, the creator, wanted another actor for the role of Samantha. Tammy Grimes was another actor on the scene at the time, with a more pixie-like face than Montgomery. Grimes had won a Tony for Best Actress in 1961 for her role in “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.” Grimes wasn’t into the role, at that time known as Cassandra. She wanted Cassandra to use her powers to save the world from war and bad traffic. Producers opted for Montgomery and the changed the character’s name to Samantha.

15. Samantha’s Pregnancies

Perhaps a better way to put it is Montgomery’s pregnancies. There were three times she became pregnant during the filming of the show over the years. The first time was in the first season. For that one, producers covered up her belly with clothing as much as possible. Then, the second time they didn’t bother. In fact, they wrote both her second and third pregnancies into the script, giving birth to two new characters, Tabitha, and Adam.
