Mary Ann was nearly a secretary named “Bunny”
The pilot episode of the show didn’t air until 1992. In it were many surprises. Kit Smith played Ginger, and Nancy McCarthy played the Mary Ann character, but they called her Bunny. Considering the challenges they had with Tina Louise, one has to wonder what happened with Kit Smith. Also, whew on Bunny. For a show struggling to challenge social norms, naming a female character “Bunny” might have raised a few eyebrows in the feminist community.
