1931 Duesenberg Model J Murphy Coupe – $10,340,000
It is, in fact, a doozy… well, a Duesy. When this Murphy-bodied Duesenberg sold in 2004 it fetched $4.5 million. In 2011, it sold for more than twice that, at $10.34 million. Duesenbergs were hand built cars, more revered than any other luxury brand in their day (Rolls Royce, Maybach, Bentley).
1997 McLaren F1 – $10,500,000
When this McLaren F1 sold in August of 2013, it fetched $8.7 million at Pebble Beach. Only months later, it sold in the spring of 2014 for over $10 million. Mclaren built this model especially for Michael Andretti, the famous race car driver. Andretti signed the back of the car, a move ensuring that it would sell for more and more each time. It has sold internationally to buyers in Japan, the United States, and most recently to Britain.
